Southend Carnival Winter Dance



Last night Southend Carnival Court, welcomed other courts from around the South East and the National Carnival Guild to their Winter Dance. Donations were also made to the charities which Southend Carnival events in 2011 supported.

£2,500 was presented to Southend RNLI as a contribution to the new lifeboat station they are building and £1,500 to Peaceful Place, who support young people living with dementia. Queen Charlotte, 18 from Southend said, ‘I was delighted to present the cheques to both RNLI and Peaceful Place which are both vital organisations which support people in Southend. The Southend Summercare Carnival Procession and other events were a big highlight in our year and we thank everyone who supported them and made it possible for us to support these local organisations.’

The visiting courts were also invited to a court of courts competition. Wickford Carnival Court came in third place, Ashingdon Carnival Court second and Maldon Carnival Court won. Alan Jones, Court Manager/Vice‐Chair and organiser of the event said, ‘it is great to be able to share this evening with some many visitors to Southend, and brilliant that everyone has enjoyed both the competition and DJ.’

Southend Summercare Carnival 2012 will be in the afternoon on 23 June. In order that Southend Summercare Carnival can be part of Southend’s preparations for the 2012 Olympics. Other events including the Dog Show, Children’s Competition, Children’s Fancy Dress and Junior Carnival Prince and Princess Competition will be held on 17 June. Final details of the Southend Summercare Carnival route and which charities Carnival will be supporting will be announced in the coming weeks.

Southend Carnival are also searching for their court for 2012. If you are aged 14 – 22 and are interested in being Southend Carnival Queen or Princess and having the opportunity to represent your town whilst supporting local charities visit www.southendcarnival.org.uk. Applications will be accepted until 31 January.
