New Year - New Southend Summercare Carnival & Court



Southend Summercare Carnival Procession 2012 will be in the afternoon on 23rd June, in order that it can be part of Southend’s preparations for the 2012 Olympics.

The Southend Summercare Carnival will be a late afternoon procession as in previous decades. It will be part of a new Southend Community Event to be launched at the end of February. Chris Charles, Chair of Southend Carnival Association explained ‘it will not be possible to hold the Southend Summercare Carnival in August , due to the Olympic Games however holding the event in June will be an interesting to be part of the Olympics. We hope that new audiences will get involved as we respond to feedback from a number of Southend organisations if would consider moving events outside the school holidays so they can take part and this will be an opportunity for them to come forward and support the event.’

Other events including the Dog Show, Teddy Bear’s Picnic and Children’s Fancy Dress will be held on 17th June with the Junior Prince and Princess Competition on the 23rd June just before the procession. Final details of the Southend Summercare Carnival Procession route and which organisations Carnival will be supporting will be announced in the coming weeks.

Southend Carnival are also now searching for their court for 2012. If you are aged 14 – 22 and are interested in being Southend Carnival Queen or Princess and having the opportunity to represent your town whilst supporting local charities visit www.southendcarnival.org.uk. Applications will be accepted until 31st January.
