Harwich Sea Festival

The Rotary Harwich Sea Festival will be held on the Quay at Harwich on Sunday 24th July 2011 from 11am to 5pm. The event celebrates the town and region’s seafaring past with an exciting mix of maritime and music with the Quay lined with around 50 stalls rangeing from arts & crafts, tombola, fast foods, and many fun type stalls along with our usual lobster raffle.

For entertainment onshore we have the Colchester marching Pipers, Deadbeat Drummers, Fame Theatre Group Rock School, a Jazz Band, and Sea Shanty Singers The Golden Nugets. Also the May Flower workshops will be open to visitors on the day.

Offshore we have the Thames Barge Pudge along with Pirates from 17/18c aboard (colchester reeactment society), Thames Barge Hydrogen, Walton Historic Lifeboat James Stevens 14, and Steam Puffer Vic 56 (birthed at Tinity pier). The Lilian of Stockholm, a 30m motor yacht built in 1916, is also attending the day.

The restoration of the Lightship L.V.18 is almost complete and will be open on the day. She is birthed opposite The Pier Hotel.

This year we have a programme of lucky draws with some fantastic prizes that have been donated by local busineses. Trinty House have donated a 2 day sail for two people with full accomodation (you can't buy this prize), so this will be our star prize! Other prizes include a meal for two along with accomodation at The Pier Hotel, mini cruise on Stenna, flat screen TV, a days sailing on Hydrogen, £200 family photo session, gift vochers from our local supermarkets worth £50 and the list goes on...

Our tombola stall will have prizes totaling well over £1,000!

Parking is free on the Green at Harwich, a short stroll to the Quay past the historic Wheel Crane, Radio museum and the Electric Palace, one of the oldest cinemas in the country, will be open.

Come along and have a great day out by the sea and help the many local charities which Rotary support throughout the year.
