Local caterers to create exciting new dining experience at firstsite

firstsite, Colchester’s new destination for contemporary visual art, has appointed Hospitality Essex, which handles all catering on the University of Essex’s Colchester Campus, to run the firstsite bar and restaurant.

From September, the company will deliver high-quality catering for thousands of visitors to firstsite’s new art and conference venue, in a venture that’s expected to create up to 30 jobs for local people.

Headed by former Victoria & Albert Museum restaurant chef Tim Morris, Hospitality Essex, part of University of Essex Commercial Services, will cater to firstsite visitors round the clock, from early morning breakfasts, relaxed lunch and tea menus, to a modern British dining experience at night. The company will also cater for the high-end conferences, functions, weddings and other community events that will take place inside the building.

The restaurant is set to become a destination in its own right, serving modern British fare to up to 90 people in its modern dining room. In the summer months it will accommodate a further 60 covers outdoors, on the south terrace that overlooks landscaped parkland.
