This Bed and Breakfast is comfortable and well equipped offering affordable overnight accommodation and is set in a quiet area close to the railway station (less than 5 minutes walk from Colchester's mainline rail station).

We have single, double twin and family overnight accommodation with ample parking and are conveniently located for Colchester General Hospital and Oaks Private Hospital, as well as being close to the town centre of Colchester.

A short distance away is Colchester United Football Club's home ground at the Community Stadium. This is an ideal location for home or away fans to make a night of it. Additionally, you are very close to several golf courses and the village of West Bergholt.

This is a Guest House with a difference. Comfort combined with all the essentials ensure your stay is as pleasant as possible and at a price you can afford. Special rates are offered for longer stays.

The guest house has recently been refurbished with the emphasis being to provide excellent facilities to business customers and leisure travellers alike and in particular comfortable but practical ensuite rooms coupled with a first class breakfast, catering for vegetarians also. All rooms have been fitted to a high standard with spacious private ensuite facilities. We also have ground floor rooms.

One of the proprietors comes from a catering background having worked as a head chef and her ethos is based on a simple ideal of good food cooked and presented at its best. "We don’t serve fast food, but good food cooked as fast as we can". Hot breakfast dishes include Panini’s, toasted sandwiches, omelettes, and of course the traditional full English breakfast. We stock a wide variety of speciality teas, cona and instant coffee where the emphasis is based on fairtrade. There is an ice station and chilling facilities on the first floor for our guest’s convenience. Hairdryers and straighteners are available on request.

Not only are there plenty of excellent pubs, restaurants and takeaways within walking distance from The Railway Sleeper, historic Colchester town offers much more. There are numerous sites such as Colchester Castle, the superb Castle Park as well as many other landmark buildings you would expect to find in Britain's oldest recorded town. There is a bus stop directly across the road which takes you into the centre of town in a few minutes.

A well equipped leisure centre is not far away and a short drive will take you into some lovely countryside.

At night there are many thriving nightclubs and bars, as well as a theatre to keep you entertained.
