Colchester Zoo is now one of the finest Zoos in Europe due to a constant programme of development and recently won the coveted "Large Visitor Attraction of the Year" Award from the East of England Tourist Board. With over 270 species to see, set in 60 acres of beautiful parkland and lakes, Colchester Zoo is well worth a visit.

Enclosures include the state of the art enclosure, Orangutan Forest, which has cost around £1.75 million pounds to complete, Leopards at Usuri Falls for the critically endangered Amur Leopard, Wallaby Walkabout and Suricata Sands for the ever popoular meerkats!

You can see sealions swimming above your heads at 'Playa Patagonia', the "Dragons of Komodo" or penguins swimming at Penguin Shores. Plus you can watch some of our African animals roaming together at Kingdom of the Wild with a number of beautiful African Elephants in Spirit of Africa opposite giving you the feeling of being on a real Safari. Colchester Zoo also has some of the rarest big cats in the world including Amur tigers and Amur leopards.

With over 50 daily displays, an undercover soft play complex – Kalahari Capers, 4 adventure play areas, three trains and more, Colchester Zoo is a fabulous day out.

Operating Hours

Colchester Zoo is open every day from 9.30am except Christmas Day.

Closing times vary according to season.

1st September - 11th September 2011: Open at 9:30am
(Last Admissions to zoo grounds at 5:00pm / Zoo Grounds close at 6:00pm)

September 12th to 31st December 2011: Open at 9:30am
(Last Admissions to zoo grounds at 3.00pm / Zoo Grounds close at 5.00pm)

Catering and Retail outlets will usually close at least one hour prior to the Zoo grounds and Guest Services usually closes 30 minutes beforehand. Please note that the zoo car parks close a maximum of 30 minutes after the zoo closes.

Colchester Zoo is a full day out, so do get here early!

Please note the duration that each of the events can last up to, so that you can plan the shows that you go to and give yourself time to get there. All displays are included in your admission.
