Winter Walkies!
Grab your wellies, it’s time for walkies!
On 29th January 2012 why not support St Clare Hospice at their 5km sponsored dog walk which starts and finishes at the hospice in Hastingwood. The walk starts at 10.30am. After the walk round the local Hastingwood countryside, there will be treats and even a medal for the pooches… soup and rolls will be provided for the owners! If you don’t have a pet to bring with you, please still come along to join us for a lovely countryside walk... there will be a prize for the ‘Best Wellies’!

Essex Air Ambulance is calling on YOU to take part in the Great Essex Feast!
Get your friends together for a feast of your choice. You can choose to entertain your friends however you wish, whether it be a formal dinner, fish & chip supper, brunch or even pancakes & bubbly! The key objective is to raise money by asking guests to make a donation. There is no fixed amount; the more they donate the more this vital Helicopter Emergency Medical Service can help to save lives.
The 2011 Great Essex Feast saw over 70 hosts from across the County entertain over 1000 guests who made generous donations and raised more than £16,000 for the Charity. This year we hope there will be even more hosts and more donations!

Pier to Pier Charity Walk
Come and join us from 10am on Sunday 25th March 2012 and be part of the second Pier to Pier event in aid of St Helena Hospice.
Participants can choose to either walk from Clacton Pier to Walton Pier for a seven mile challenge or you can walk there and back again for a 14 mile challenge.
Whichever challenge you choose, you can look forward to an enjoyable time walking for fun or in memory of a loved one. Walk alongside friends, family members, work colleagues or simply come alone and make friends along the way.
It is absolutely free to take part in the walk but we are hoping that everyone will be able to raise some money through sponsorship for St Helena Hospice.

St Clare Hospice 10k Run
Run 10k for your local hospice on Sunday 1st April 2012.
This 10k road race starts and finishes at the hospice in Hastingwood and is affiliated with UK Athletics. Sprint round in less than 35 minutes with local club runners or jog round with our fun runners, this run really is for everyone! There are medals for all finishers and a BBQ, refreshments and entertainment for spectators. There will also be a prize giving ceremony for the fastest runners. Your must be aged 15 years or over to take part. Entry costs £12 (or £10 for affiliated runners).

Havens to Havens Sponsored Walk 2012
Celebrate the arrival of spring and join us for our fifth Havens to Havens sponsored walk on Sunday 1st April 2012.
Get together with friends and family and stroll through lush woodlands, via the historic Hadleigh Castle, taking in wonderful views of the Leigh-on-Sea coastline whilst raising vital funds for your local hospices.
The walk begins at Little Havens Children's Hospice in Thundersley where walkers can start their walk anytime between 11am - 12noon. Choose to complete a 5 mile walk to Fair Havens Hospices in Westcliff or a 10 mile circular route back to the starting point. There will be tea, coffee and cake at the midway and finish points, an opportunity for all participants to sign the event guest book, and event bags and medals for all participants. Charity Fun Day at Carver Barracks, Wimbish
33 Engineer Regiment (EOD) and 101 (City of London) Engineer Regiment EOD who are based at the Barracks are throwing open their gates to the local community and surrounding area. The event will be a showcase of military skills and equipment. The day will be interspersed by music from local bands that will play a huge variety of music. Duxford Imperial War Museum will have a range of tank and armoured personnel carriers on display. Entertainment for the children will include a crazy golf course, fair type attractions and a bouncy castle.
Gates open at midday, entrance will be free.
A programme will be on sale for £2 and all profits raised will be donated to the Injured Soldiers' Fund, Help for Heroes and Regimental Good Causes.

Essex Castle Bike Ride 2011
Enjoy a beautiful summer bike ride through the picturesque villages of north Essex!
Take part in the Essex Castle Bike Ride and raise money to help our Marie Curie Nurses continue caring for terminally ill patients.
Starting in Colchester, choose from one of three routes along the quiet country lanes:
• The King's Ride: 25 miles into the Stour Valley
• The Horses Ride: 50 miles to Castle Hedingham
• The Wall Ride: 75 miles to Finchingfield to take tea and cake in this picture postcard village
Participants must be at least 14 years old for the 50 mile course and 16 years old for the 75 mile course. Cyclists under 16 must be accompanied by an adult over 18 and wear a cycle helmet.
Road, hybrid and mountain bikes are all suitable.

We need your help and there are tasks for everyone - the only restriction is you have to be aged 16 or over. Jobs include cleaning windows, to decorating, building & land maintenance.

The Thorndon Stride
The Thorndon Stride is an 8km walk taking place in the beautiful haven of Thorndon Country Park in Brentwood and the surrounding Essex countryside.
It is open to everyone and is in aid of Cancer Research UK’s ‘Join the Fight’ breast cancer awareness campaign. Getting involved in the Thorndon Stride is a great way to get together and spend time with loved ones. By taking part in the walk, you can help us ‘Join the Fight’ for women's survival and raise much needed funds for our vital research into breast cancer. Walkers come from all over the Brentwood area and beyond to stroll through the beautiful Essex countryside at Thorndon. Many come dressed in pink so bring your family and friends along to enjoy this special day.
Registration is £5 in advance or £8 on the day.
The route is not suitable for small wheeled buggies or wheelchairs, although there is access for both at the venue. Dogs must be kept on a lead and children under the age of 16 should be accompanied by an adult. The route is all within the boundaries of the park, and clearly marked – directions will also be issued on the day. The walk takes around 2 hours at an average pace.

Christmas Gift Fair at Hylands House
Friends of Essex Churches Trust is hosting a Christmas Gift Fair on Wednesday 12th October from 10am to 3pm at Hylands House.
Visitors, wishing to get organised before a last minute rush, can expect to find a huge range of Christmas stalls selling a wonderful selection of Christmas cards, hampers, homemade cakes and gorgeous gifts including decorative glass, clothing, kitchenware, handmade decorations and stocking fillers for the whole family.
Entrance fee is £5 which includes coffee and biscuits. A reduced entrance fee of £2.50 is available after 1.30pm. Light lunches will be served.

RNLI Welly Walk
Join us in Harwich for a welly fun day!
There are 2 routes to choose from 8k and 5k. Both are family-friendly walks which take in the stunning coastline around Harwich and Dovercourt as well as some hidden treasures including the lifeboat museum and Redoubt Fort. Wearing wellies is optional, but we do ask every adult to raise a minimum of £42 - the equivalent cost of a pair of RNLI crew wellies. There will be a quiz along the way and fun activities at the Lifeboat Station after.
Time: 10.30am start. Ends 3pm

Colchester Macmillan's Halloween Monster Mash
A spook-tacular evening at Colchester Arts Centre to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. There will be plenty of tricks and treats plus a Live Music from Local band 'There and Back' and a DJ set from 'Ginge Simon'. There will also be a prize for the best dressed, so dig out your best fancy dress costume!

Firewalk - Are You Brave Enough?
Ever fancied walking on fire? Well now’s your chance to do so and raise much needed funds for St Clare Hospice at the same time!
A fire walk is the most inspirational journey you will ever undertake. It is as the name suggests: a bare foot walk over red-hot wood embers measuring around 800 degrees. No tricks, no special effects. Just you and the fire.
Registration is £25 and we ask that you pledge to raise £150 sponsorship. This will give you access to the motivational one hour “Impossible is Nothing” seminar followed by the shortest sponsored walk you will ever do – a 16 foot over hot coals. The Fire Walk takes place at St Clare Hospice on Thursday 3rd November. Registration will commence at 6.30pm, the training session at 7pm and the fire walk at 8pm.

Ho, Ho, Ho, It’s Time to Sign Up for the EACH Braintree Santa Run 2011
East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) invite you to take part in the Braintree Santa Run on Sunday 4th December 2011 at 11am. Kick start the Christmas Celebrations and join us around George Yard Shopping Centre for our fun run.
This fantastic 2km run is designed for all ages and all levels of fitness. You can opt to jog or walk and the route is suitable for both wheelchairs and pushchairs. With your support we aim not only to raise awareness of the services we provide, but to raise vital funds to allow us to continue caring for local children and their families.

Festive Fun Run for Local Hospice care!
On Sunday 11th December why not take part in the St Clare Hospice Santa Fun Run starting in Harlow Town Park at 11am? Not only will you have a great family time; with your free Santa suit on you’ll look the part!
The 4km route takes you through the park, around the boundary before returning to cheers from the crowd. Last year we had over 200 Santa’s take part; of all ages and abilities, raising £7,300 for St Clare Hospice, which provides free of charge support to hundreds of local people each year. We would love to see 300 Santa’s taking part this year raising £10,000 which would fund our entire Inpatient Unit for 57 hours over the festive period. Help us support local families this Christmas by taking part in our Santa Fun Run.
Children receive a free Santa hat when they sign up and adults get a full Santa suit. There’s pre-start stalls, refreshments and entertainment including a festive warm up, sure to get you in the mood and off to a flying start.
