Action for the Wild continues to fund black & white Rhino Conservation

Colchester Zoo's charity Action for the Wild is continuing with its funding of black and white rhino conservation in South Africa by sending £5,000 to Hluhluwe-iMfolozi National Park to continue with its important work via Save the Rhino.

Already this year in South Africa around 280 rhino have been killed for their horns, this is edging close to the 333 that were killed last year. Only 3 rhinos have been killed in Hluhluwe-iMfolozi park, and this would easily have been more without the support of Action for the Wild and the hard work of the game rangers at the park.

The latest funding will help to replace solar panels and obtaining deep cycle batteries and accessories for two field ranger camps which have been without radio communication as they have not been able to charge their batteries.

The mission of the project is to uphold the security of the Hluhluwe-iMfolozi parks rhino population by maintaining a viable perimeter fence and to increase the effectiveness of anti-poaching and monitoring activities, in order to ensure the continued and increased competence of field rangers in the Reserve. Action for the Wild began supporting this project in 2005 and annually donates money to help fulfil this mission.
